What a debt buyer is on this desk
A debt buyer here is an operating company that purchases charged-off receivables after an NDA. The company takes title at funding, boards the accounts, and works them under its own compliance program. DebtMarket is the broker desk that introduces that company to sellers. The desk does not collect from consumers, and it does not send a tape to a firm that has not stated its purchase criteria.
The application asks who the company is, which paper it will take, and how it will fund a close. An operating entity and a reputation the desk can confirm are the gate. Membership in RMAI or ACA is a plus. It is not required. A new buyer with a clean entity, a named compliance owner, and capital for the file it described is a normal applicant.
Purchase criteria the desk can match to a file
Criteria are specific. A line that says “we buy debt” does not tell the desk which file to send. The note below does:
| Field | Example an applicant can send |
|---|---|
| Products | Charged-off bankcards. No medical. Auto deficiency only with the deficiency letter. |
| Window | Charge-off from 2023 forward. Older paper only if media is above 80 percent. |
| States | Name the states the company can work. A blank “nationwide” line gets a follow-up question. |
| Size | Face the company can fund in one close, and the smallest file it still wants to see. |
| Bid unit | Percent of unpaid principal. Say if a thin file would be bid in basis points instead. |
That note is enough for the desk to decide whether a live seller file should be shown to the firm. The full account tape still waits for the NDA. The fields sellers put on that tape are listed on the data tape page. Where files are sourced, including this desk versus a public auction, is where to buy debt online. The sequence from criteria to boarding is how to buy debt.
What the application is actually checking
Three checks decide whether a tape moves. The company exists and someone answers for it. The criteria match a file the desk has or expects. The buyer can fund and board on a 3 to 14 day close once title is clean. A buyer who wants the accounts and also wants the seller to keep calling the debtors is outside this desk. After funding, the seller forwards those debtors to the buyer. The seller does not work, collect, or service them.
The 90-day warranty starts after closing and funding. Paid-prior and deceased status are measured against the cut-off date. Those dates are on cut-off, closing, and funding. Discussion ranges by product, which are conversation bands and not offers, are on the pricing study.
Questions applicants ask
Which states should I name?
Name the states the company can work. Criteria that name those states are enough for the desk to match a file. The state map is there if you want the background on a state before you add it.
Will I see account-level data in the first email?
No. The first look is a snapshot: product, face, count, window, media percent, states. Account rows move after the NDA.
How fast is a decision?
The desk replies within one business day at portfolios@debtmarket.net or 561-254-6608. A fit is a next step, not a guaranteed file that week.
